Vivid gold and black silk Qum carpet, woven with the best dyes and the finest silk weave to execute this remarkable circle medallion design. All silk foundation and pile, this is a masterpiece of weaving.
Qum was not a major weaving centre until the 1930’s. They took designs from other weaving centres such as Isfahan, Tabriz and Kashan and made them in to their own unique style. Qum’s are finely knotted and use high quality wool and silk. Large looms are set up in Qum so you often find oversized wool and silk Qum’s. Designs generally consist of central medallions with elaborate corner spandrel designs, often these represent the ceiling designs in mosques. Qum was also fond of producing hunting scene rugs, and unusual colours.
