Description
A fabulous masterpiece signed silk Qum by Master weaver Mir Medhi who is renowned for weaving the finest silk rugs, with the highest knot counts and all silk pile and silk foundation. As you can see with the detailed close ups, the workmanship is exceptional. Which is why Mir Medhi silk Qum pieces are collectable and respected as the best of this type. This beautiful silk Qum carpet is in perfect original condition and woven around 1970’s.
Qum was not a major weaving centre until the 1930’s. They took designs from other weaving centres such as Isfahan, Tabriz and Kashan and made them in to their own unique style. Qum’s are finely knotted and use high quality wool and silk. Large looms are set up in Qum so you often find oversized wool and silk Qum’s. Designs generally consist of central medallions with elaborate corner spandrel designs, often these represent the ceiling designs in mosques. Qum was also fond of producing hunting scene rugs, and unusual colours.
