Antique Heriz carpet

Circa 1890
309 × 226 cm 10’1” x 7’4”
£12,500

Description

A really stunning, rare pale blue coloured Heriz weaving, using an eight-pointed star and latch-hook motif design in the main field, which we associate with weavers locally to Heriz in the village of Karaja.  Stunning rich saturated colours, these beautiful natural vegetable dyes have aged amazingly over the last 120 years.  The rich and vibrant colour palette is really quite something! With these light blues and gold dyes, muted reds and pale greens.  This is what makes antique carpets so desirable and appealing, as well as being traditional this carpet would not look out of place in a more contemporary setting.

Dating from 1890-1900 the condition is very good, with almost a full height wool pile all over.  Professionally washed by ourselves it is ready for the floor, supplied with our sturdy anti-slip underlay included.

Please request a home visit to arrange a day and time to view this carpet at home.  Alternatively purchase online and we can ship worldwide, including free underlay to keep this beautiful antique carpet safe and secure on the floor.

. . .

Karaja carpets and rugs were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border.  Their carpets and rugs often use 8 pointed star motifs and sometimes they weave in animals and people which adds great interest. They are easily recognisable with three repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. Other designs are the latch-hooked design a tribal motif we can see on this rich exciting carpet.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.  A free, no obligation service we have offered for over 30 years.
