Antique Heriz carpet

Circa 1910
370 × 290 cm 12’1” x 9’6”
£14,500

Description

An Antique Heriz carpet in wonderful original condition all over, with a dense lush wool pile. Lovely off-white in the corner spandrels with subtle pink and brick tones and a striking central blue and red medallion. Beautifully well drawn carpet with great detail.

This carpet has been woven by weavers at the top of their game in Heriz as the design is well constructed and the central medallion has been beautifully executed. The pile is very high on this piece and would be a durable addition to use in any room, working with contemporary or traditional furniture.  Woven in the early part of the 20th century it has a great soft feel and more geometric than some Heriz, the style is close to that of the neighbouring Karaja village weavings.  We love the rich blue border with large leaf design.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment. Please request a home visit to use our no obligation service to view this beautiful antique Heriz carpet in your own home.  We have been travelling all over the UK & Europe showing carpets in situ helping interior designers and customers alike for over 25 years.

. . .

Heriz carpets have always been regarded as beautiful, tough objects of decoration, made in the north-west of Persia these handwoven works of art always have variations from one piece to another. Some draw influences from further north into the Caucasus and vivid colours like this particular carpet.  A decorative yet practical carpet which has been used for over 100 years and has already stood the test of time.
