Description
An almost square, early antique Farahan carpet with a rare saffron yellow main field colour, beautifully drawn and full of interesting smaller floral motifs. A larger palmette and vine border design in deep blues, almost black which is famous with Farahan weavings. The accent colours of green, soft pink and reds create a harmonious palette. We can see corrosion to the early brown dyes too, as this wool had iron properties which have corroded over the last 150 plus years. A striking ancient carpet woven around 1860-1870, rich in colour and ancient in design, a truly remarkable piece.
Amazing square size, Fereghan or Farahan as they are often known were one of few weaving areas that produced square sizes. Small areas of lower pile are visible, cleaned by our workshop and the fringes have been professionally restored, as they were missing a few rows, we use ancient wool to reweave the ends so they blend in beautifully and are not noticeable.
