Description
Enormous ancient antique Farahan carpet from the last 1/4 of the 19th century with a stunning early scrolling palmette floral design with the most exuberant colours! A rich red border is a great colour to allow the sandy main background, gold tones, teals, sage greens and pale blue dyes to flourish, with varying floral motifs all over, an incredibly decorative carpet. Due to the carpets size, the border is very wide, with a turtle design flowing around, full of early dyes from the mid 19th century.
The wool pile is good with minimal low areas of pile height on this 160 year old carpet. A large decorative antique Persian carpet which would look magnificent in a drawing room or dining room. Woven in the golden era of weaving in Persia these are becoming increasingly rare to find in exceptional original condition.
We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ anywhere in the UK, a free professional service. Having helped private customers and interior designers find the perfect carpet for the last 30 years.
Fereghan or Farahan carpets are generally one of two types, the first being a full field decoration of floral motifs based on Persian designs, most commonly with the geometric ‘Herati’ design. The second has a full medallion, usually with a contrasting colour, the edge of which is surrounded by a zig zag or jagged border. The dyes have mellowed beautifully due to the carpets age allowing it to be placed in a drawing room or dining room with ease.
