A lovely full pile on this antique Mahal carpet woven in the early 20th century. With a warm red background, and a deep blue border the pale blue accents and light greens and pinks lift the palette of colours to make this a wonderful bright and warm carpet.
Mahal carpets are famous for all over designs, and this Mahal has an intricate flowing vine and palmette design, lovely small leaves and beautifully woven around 100 years ago.

Antique Mahal’s or Sultanabad carpets are generally woven with all over patterns consisting of floral designs and soft tones. Their neighbours in the north of Persia, Heriz were always more geometric in their style – and more often were woven with central motifs. The all over design Heriz carpets are increasingly hard to find in good condition and with age.
