Distressed Antique Mahal carpet

Circa 1890
360 × 260 cm 11’9” x 8’6”
£6,000

Description

This is a very beautiful and distressed antique Mahal carpet, with the hard to find ivory background colour.  Using wonderful pale blues, greens, golds and pinks for the all over palmette and vine design.  A deep blue border is a great contrasting colour to the ivory off-white background.

Condition is distressed and worn in many areas, it is in good structural order with no holes or tears.   We rarely hold distressed antique carpets in our inventory, unless they are early and decorative items.  Our underlay would aid the carpets condition greatly, as it stops the carpet moving around on the floor adding body to it.

Book in a showroom visit by appointment or request to view this lovely distressed antique Mahal carpet at home soon.  Or please request a home visit, we travel all over the UK showing our carpets and rugs in situ to help you select the ideal carpet for your home.

If you are an interior designer, you can request for us to reserve this distressed carpet for your project.  You can also reserve it and arrange a home viewing or to see it at our barn showroom instead.

We offer the professional service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire,  and anywhere else in UK by appointment. Having travelled to Ireland, Scotland and even Europe over the last 30 years we love to travel showing our carpets to customers and interior designers.

Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the centre of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vinescrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
