Description
A wonderful quality pure silk Qum carpet, woven with a wonderful soft palette. This Qum has been woven with the best quality silk, by the most talented weavers. The foundation is silk too which allows the weavers to produce these incredible intricate designs. It would take around 2 years to weave a carpet of this quality. Woven around 24 years ago, production of these finer carpets has slowed due to the cost to weave today, making these increasingly rare to find.
Qum was not a major weaving centre until the 1930’s. They took designs from other weaving centres such as Isfahan, Tabriz and Kashan and made them in to their own unique style. Qum’s are finely knotted and use high quality wool and silk. Large looms are set up in Qum so you often find oversized wool and silk Qum’s. Designs generally consist of central medallions with elaborate corner spandrel designs, often these represent the ceiling designs in mosques. Qum was also fond of producing hunting scene rugs, and unusual colours.
