A finely woven bespoke Serapi design rug, using gentle natural dyes and soft hand-spun wool. A wonderful antique pattern, with a open design in the centre, with slightly geometric floral motifs, elegantly drawn vines and tendrils. The border pattern is a combination of large scale turtle motif with the famous flower and leaves either side design, commonly known as the Herati pattern. A wonderful take on an antique rug, and we absolutely love it! A one off bespoke rug, available now to view at home or at our showroom.
These beautiful modern rugs are woven in workshops in Afghanistan by a family run business who we have been dealing with directly for over 20 years, they produce various designs using classical patterns with the dyes we choose to our own specifications.
Antique Serapi rugs are rare and valuable rugs, woven in the north-west of Persia in the mid to late 19th century, their designs and dyes were exquisite. It is fantastic to produce these new rugs with antique designs with contemporary colours.

Antique Serapi rugs and carpets are more intricate finer tribal weavings of the Heriz region hand-woven by Azerbaijan Turkish inhabitants close to the city of Heriz in North-West Persia. They are famous among collectors because of their vivid vegetable dyes or soft earth tones that are woven on a geometric pattern. In terms of design, drawing, and coloration as well, Serapi carpets are clearly part of one and the same tradition as Heriz, despite being a distinct antique rug style, which originated as a Northwest Persian adaptation of early Sarouk Farahan medallion, but with a more geometric, abstract, village sensibility.
