Antique Heriz runner

Circa 1900
8’ x 2’3” 245 × 70 cm
£3,250

Description

A rustic antique Heriz runner with beautiful natural colours using warm reds, pinks, yellows and pale blue dyes.  The geometric design of the three repeating medallions  is fantastic,  and there is some wonderful abrash within the camel ground which creates wonderful depth. This antique runner is in very good condition with a high wool pile and no losses to the fringes, the sides are original. A lovely antique runner ideal to brighten a corridor or entrance.

Heriz, Karaja and Gorevan villages are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.

Visit our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey to see this vibrant antique runner and many more, we have nearly a 1000 items in our inventory.  Alternatively request a home visit, as we love to travel the country showing our carpets, rugs and runners in-situ, this is a free service we have provided for over 30 years.
