Antique Qashqai carpet cushion

Circa 1890
30 × 25 cm 11” x 9”
£75

Description

One antique Qashqai carpet cushion from a beautiful set of ten cushions hand-crafted from an antique Qashqai carpet, which was sadly beyond restoration.  Dating from the late 19th century the natural dyes on these cushions are really stunning, with soft reds, blues, golden yellows and off-white tones.  These tribal cushions are full of interesting animals and geometric motifs.

It is wonderful to be able to produce these hand-crated cushions using remnants of antique carpets. The Qashqai are Persian nomadic tribes that have lived in south-west Persia for centuries, they produced beautiful tribal carpets and rugs.  As this carpet was around 130 years old, there is some visible wear on every one of the cushions, adding wonderful character to each one.

These cushions have a brown corduroy backing to compliment the colours on the front and are filled with feather inserts, there is also a zip to remove the insert if needed.

Purchase this antique Qashqai cushion online and we will safely deliver it to your home.  Alternatively arrange a visit to our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey to see them all.

We have a large collection of beautiful antique Kilim cushions and antique carpet cushions, all hand-made using antique pieces of kilim and carpet.  Filled with feather inserts and backed with either corduroy or linen, they have been expertly made.  Great old natural antique colours and beautifully hand-stitched and filled with a feather cushion insert.  All of our antique cushions have been hand-stitched using the best materials and inserts.

The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region. Because of this diverse history, influences from many regions are apparent in their carpets, such as these Bothe designs which we often see in rugs such as Senneh and Caucasian rugs.  More often woven on a wool foundation their handle is loose and with fine soft wool they are beautiful underfoot.
