Description

A beautiful colourful all over ‘Boteh’ design on this Southern-Persian antique Qashqai Kashkuli rug from the late 19th century.  From one of the federation of six tribes in the south of Persia in the Fars region, Kashkuli were known to be of a finer weave than that of the other tribes.  A rare ivory background on this refined piece, with no corner designs and amazing detail in weaving the Boteh’s in lines of colour.  Condition is very good, with minimal wear and no losses to the pattern at both ends.  Wonderful variation of dyes, and abrash in the yellow border dye.

A collectable and beautiful antique tribal rug to be used on the floor or hung on a wall.  Contact us to view this antique Qashqai rug at home or in our Surrey showroom soon.

. . .

The Qashqai are Persian nomadic tribes that have lived in south-west Persia for centuries. The Qashqai people lived in central Asia and the Caucasus region for many centuries before moving to their current home region. Because of this diverse history, influences from many regions are apparent in their carpets, such as these Bothe designs which we often see in rugs such as Senneh and Caucasian rugs.  More often woven on a wool foundation their handle is loose and with fine soft wool they are beautiful underfoot.
