Description

A glossy wool pile on this lovely open design antique Ushak carpet, woven with a soft red to pinkish tone background, gentle light blues and hints of yellow.  The border colour is unusual in its blue/grey tones, a wonderful balancing colour with the main field.  A large scale open vine, leaf and flower design makes this decorative carpet easy to use in a room.  The condition is very good, some localised wear is visible in places, but no large areas of damage or wear.  Supplied with our sturdy underlay to keep this carpet flat, beautiful and secure on the floor.

As members of the British Antique Dealers Association (BADA) and LAPADA – The Association of Art and Antique Dealers you can purchase from us with confidence. Our inventory is vetted by both associations, and at the antiques fairs we exhibit at.

If you would like to view this beautiful antique carpet at home, please click on the request a home visit form to choose an ideal day and time for us to visit you.  A professional, free and no obligation service we have offered travelling nationwide since 1990.  It would be our pleasure to visit your home and help you soon.

. . .

One of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire, Ushak designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and softer dyes are common, especially on earlier pieces.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs. This good condition Oushak carpet or Ushak has a good full wool pile throughout the carpet.  No significant losses or damage and ideal for any room with underlay we supply.

Ushak rugs and carpets were woven in the Anatolian highlands south of Istanbul where they used extremely soft wool and using the larger turkish knot made them weave more open designs than Persian carpets. They are increasingly desirable today due to their open designs and wonderful colours, thus making them easy to place in a drawing room or under a dining table.
