Vintage Tabriz carpet

Circa 1970
269 × 211 cm 8’9” x 6’11”

Stunning vintage Tabriz carpet woven around 1960-1970 in excellent original condition.  A lovely soft wool pile with a classical and elegant floral design of twisting vines and flowers. The weaver would use a drawing know as a ‘cartoon’ to know exactly were to place each floral motif and each intricate knot.  The background is the deepest of blues, which are almost black, but they really allow the white border and other lovely dyes to really shine.

Tabriz is a city located in the north-west of Persia, it was the major centre for production of rugs and carpets. They more than often will have central medallions but like every rug, the dyes play a huge part in a rugs beauty. Please feel free to email or call us with any further questions about this vintage Tabriz carpet.
