Amazing tomato red main background on this antique Ushak carpet, combined with a soft green border and golden yellows with teal blues in the design.  A very open design on this large antique carpet that has a full high wool pile throughout the majority of this beautiful antique carpet.  Antique Ushak carpets are wonderful carpets to furnish with in large drawing rooms, or dining rooms adding rich warmth and character.  This exceptional carpet has minimal wear and is almost in perfect full pile all over, dating from the early 20th century.

Ushak rugs and Oushak carpets were woven in the Anatolian highlands south of Istanbul where they used extremely soft wool and using the larger Turkish knot made them weave more open designs than Persian carpets. They are increasingly desirable today due to their open designs and wonderful colours, thus making them easy to place in a drawing room or under a dining table.
