Old Kayseri Pictorial rug

Circa 1950
168 × 102 cm 5’6” x 3’4”
£2,500

Description

A beautiful and unusual Kayseri pictorial rug full of wonderful animals and trees.  We have a brilliant rhinoceros and crocodile in the water scene, with birds plus water appears to be a black panther at the bottom of the scene. The red scrolling vine border balances the rugs palette beautifully too. From a private collection the condition is truly fantastic! With a lush soft wool pile, and gentle sheen to the fine wool used in these rugs.

. . .

The original fringes are showing at both ends and we cleaned the rug so it is ready for the floor or to be hung.  The rug has been with the previous owner for at least 50 years, so it would coincide with our dating of around mid 20th century.
