£7,800

Description

Beautiful rare ‘Boteh’ design antique Kazak rug, unusual to find these types of Caucasian rugs with columns of Boteh’s down the middle of the rug.  With glorious dyes typical of the late 19th century, we have some great faded aubergine, brown dyes which appear around 1880-1890 rugs.  A rare antique Caucasian rug for the collector or to be used as a decorative interesting rug on the floor.  The natural ivory border colour highlights the vibrant star design.  So much interest on this beautiful rug from the Caucasus highlands.

. . .

Rugs bearing the name Kazak come from the highland area of the Caucasus in Azerbaijan whose centre is the town of Kazak. Woven by semi-nomadic shepherds of the region. They use fabulous vegetable dyes and high quality hand spun wool from their own herd.  Depending on the weave some Kazak rugs can be extremely soft to handle as the wool is light and woven on a supple foundation.
