Description

A very interesting and rare Heriz runner with the design associated to Maslaghan rugs, there design is so recognisable as it always nearly consists of this zig-zag medallion design connected down the centre of the rug.  The smaller motifs scattered behind in the deep blue are geometric floral designs.  A very contemporary looking runner in many ways, they have vivid designs and great colours.

. . .

The weave is that of Heriz in the north of Persia and the condition is tough and full of good wool pile.  Just professionally washed by ourselves and ready to use.

Maslaghan is small district in the Saveh area, east of Hamadan in the village of Kerdar.  Hamadan was an area which produced many tribal weavings in varying styles and qualities.  The name implies a carpet which carries a lightening pattern! Which is the famous zig-zag medallion we see on this rug.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
