Description

Stunning antique Hamadan rug, woven in north Persia around circa 1900-1910 in exceptional condition all over and an unusual antique Karaja design.  The variety and depth of colour is fantastic! The subtle changes in the green eight-pointed star motifs adds a lot of charm and interest.  The deep indigo blue background allows all the other colours to shine and the sunburst central motif to literally shine like the sun! The nicest rug from the Hamadan region we have ever seen, the quality of the wool is very soft, obviously woven by an accomplished weaver in the early 20th century.

. . .

Hamadan is located in the west of Persia and the city was a centre for trading and weaving carpets, hundreds of villages surround Hamadan which produced various designs and qualities of rugs.
