Description
An ancient Tabriz carpet with exquisite faded dyes dating from 1880, this beautiful elegant carpet is around 140 years old. Tabriz of this period would have used the softest of dyes, and muted pinkish, brown tones with a wide variety of dyes which add this immense depth of character to the piece. Some delightful pale blues can be seen in the floral design, connecting vines with a collective of floral patterns and leaves. The large scale flowing border uses a 16th century ‘Herati’ pattern, executed with great precision, the weavers from the city of Tabriz produced some of the finest carpets. This carpet is a rarer design, with no central medallion, allowing it to be placed in a room with ease.

Tabriz carpets from Northwest Persia are distinguished by their excellent weave and by their remarkable adherence to the classical traditions of Persian rug design, but they cannot be distinguished by any particular pattern or by their coloration. Tabriz rugs offer classical medallion designs and a host of allover patterns as well in every color imaginable, from brilliant rich tones to soft pastels using excellent natural dyes.
