Description
A super decorative antique Spanish Cuenca carpet with a large scale Damask influence in the design, woven with wool rather than piled they are knotted in staggered stages. Handwoven in the city of Cuenca, between Madrid and Valencia, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries but also more recently as is this early 20th century example. This is woven on a jute foundation too, and the pile is dense and luxurious, ideal for a bedroom to add warmth and character and luxury underfoot.
Dating from the 1920-30’s this is an exceptional piece, in brilliant original condition all over, original fringes and sides, the wool pile is consistent and high all over this beautiful and interesting carpet.
