Description

A European influence can be seen on this antique Karabagh rug, with ornate flowers and dyes typical of the period and how they were weaving rugs for the West.  Dating from around 1910-1915 the dyes are soft, with the a background of cherry reds muted and biscuit tones work well with the hints of pink tones.

A classical medallion pattern with well drawn corner spandrels, a soft floppy handle on this Karabagh, known for their soft wool and construction.  Nice wool all over, very soft, washed recently and ready to be used.

. . .

Karabagh rugs and runners came in varying designs and colours and were woven in the south-west of Azerbaijan, an area that produced interesting tribal caucasian rugs. Carpet weaving grew in the 2nd half of the 19th century as the commercial market demanded exciting, bold flamboyant pieces for the Western market.

Request a home visit to try this antique caucasian rug in-situ at a convenient day and time to suit you. If you would like to view hundreds of antique rugs, please do come and visit our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey.
