Description

Such a pretty and decorative antique Mahal carpet, with a rare ivory wool background and a beautifully hand-woven all over floral design.  This is an elegant and rustic carpet woven around 120 years ago, the condition is really exceptional.  All original with a soft good wool pile all over.  The muted natural greens, pale blues and delicate pinks are such wonderful colours to furnish with or build a scheme around.

A beautiful carpet for a drawing room, bedroom, study or entrance hall.  We would supply sturdy anti-slip underlay with this carpet, to aid its strength on the floor and it also helps preserve the carpet too.  As wear is more-often caused by a carpet moving on a floor, creating creases which over time turn into wear.

We would happily welcome you contacting us to request a home visit, having visited customers in their own homes for over 30 years. We feel it is vital to view carpets and rugs at home, so you can make the ideal choice, trying various options in a room. A professional, free service we have offered since 1990.

Book a visit to our barn showroom, we have over 1000 antique and contemporary carpets, rugs and runners on offer.  We are located in the small village of Crondall in Surrey, around an hours drive from London.

. . .

Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the center of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vine scrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
