Antique Seychour Kelleh

Circa 1870
360 × 130 cm 11’9” x 4’3”
£8,750

Description

An ancient and lightly distressed Seychour Kelleh woven around 150 years ago, woven with the St. Andrew Cross Pattern running down the main field.  The Seichur village is between Derbent and Karagashli Town in the Northern Kuba region of Dagestan.  The wool is very soft and the rug has a floppy handle, with a very deep blue almost black background, and famous green rosette floral pattern in the main border, which is a pattern the Seychour weavers used a great deal. An interesting tribal runner, placed in a hall or corridor it would look like it had lived there for 100 years or more.

We offer the service of viewing any of our antique kelleh’s, carpets, rugs or runners in-situ anywhere in the UK by appointment. Please contact us or request a home visit to see this kelleh at carpet at home soon.  Or please book in a visit to our barn showroom if you prefer, we would love to welcome you here.
