Agra 'Shrub design' carpet

Contemporary
404 × 309 cm 13’3” x 10’1”
£12,850

Description

Woven with a very fine weave, using the best wool and dyes this contemporary Agra carpet uses an ancient Shrub design taken from India and the mid 19th century.  All hand-woven this carpet would have taken around a year to weave and perfect. The natural light dyes, of off-white, cream and muted pink tones, make a very pretty and delicate carpet.  Ideal to place in a bedroom or a drawing room looking for a subtle pattern and gentle look.

The ’Shrub’ design in the main field is one of the desired designs in Agra carpets.  On researching this carpets design, we found a collection of drawings from 1840 in the V&A Museum which is the same Shrub design in the main field of this carpet.  The design is an inlay drawing for the cenotaph of Shah Jahan identical to the border design of this contemporary Agra carpet.
