Antique Yomud carpet

Circa 1890
322 × 189 cm 10’6” x 6’2”
£9,500

Description

Yomud also spelt Yomut is a large Turkmen tribe group, and one of the five major tribes of Turkmenistan.  Their Gul motif includes rhombuses and octagons with serrated edges, and are distinctive against the other Tekke tribes.  Dyes consist of deep chocolate browns, reds and some green and blues.  They are often finer than most Turkmen pieces, and this Yomud carpet is very fine and has a tight weave and in good condition.

The skirt design (the large borders at either end) are always vivid and really frame the whole piece, these bold geometric motifs are truly wonderful and this tribal carpet would enhance many a room adding vast interest and history.

Woven around 1890-1900 and with some original kilim fringe at both ends too. Contact us to organise a viewing soon, either at home or in our showroom, we would love to help you.
