Description

Soft peach, brick red tones and a pale blue minor border, make this an attractive small antique Heriz runner, woven in the early 20th century.  Some lovely geometric motifs, using the eight-pointed star motif, in varying shades of green dye, plus the latch-hook design in sandy tones too.   A rare small size and narrow width too, some minimal areas of lower pile but in general good order.

Heriz and Karaja are not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
