Antique Kurdish carpet cushion

Circa 1880
40 × 40 cm 1’3” x 1’3”

One antique Kurdish carpet cushion from a beautiful set of six cushions that are a similar size.  Hand-crafted from an antique Kurdish runner from the late 19th century, which was sadly beyond restoration.  The natural dyes on these cushions are really stunning, with early greens, soft reds, indigo blues and aubergine dyes.  There are some lovely tribal motifs on these cushions, you can see animals such as deer and geometric flowers. You can view all six of the cushions from the same antique runner by clicking here.

Each cushion has an indigo blue corduroy backing and are filled with feather inserts, there is also a zip to remove the insert if needed.

It is wonderful to be able to produce these hand-crated cushions using remnants of antique carpets, there is some visible wear on the cushions, due to their age, adding wonderful character to each one.

Purchase this antique cushion online and we will safely deliver it to your home.  Alternatively arrange a visit to our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey to see them all.

. . .

Kurdish rug weavers were mainly woman who adapted and experimented with neighbouring weaving designs and used them in their own carpets. Nomadic rugs of the Kurds of Azerbaijan and the Caucasus used often primitive designs, whereas the the Kurdish Northwest Persia weavers used Caucasian designs of Kazak and Karabagh such as the diagonally striped field or bold geometric motifs.

We have a large collection of beautiful antique Kilim cushions and antique carpet cushions, all hand-made using antique pieces of kilim and carpet.  Filled with feather inserts and backed with either corduroy or linen, they have been expertly made.  Great old natural antique colours and beautifully hand-stitched and filled with a feather cushion insert.  All of our antique cushions have been hand-stitched using the best materials and inserts.
