This has to be one of the finest antique Aubusson rugs we have seen, the weaving and design is just fantastic. We are very lucky to have received this from a very fastidious previous owner who has both looked after it incredibly well, by not using it in a prominent space, but they have also taken care of it further by having it backed and edged wonderfully – please take a look at the extra images to see the care that has been taken with regards its’ preservation.
A stunning example, in perfect condition, dating from the early to mid 19th century.
Please request a home visit to view this beautiful classical french Aubusson tapestry in-situ. We travel all over the UK showing our inventory of carpets and rugs to interior designers and private customers.
Typically, Aubusson tapestries depended on engravings as a design source or the full-scale cartoons from which the low-warp tapestry-weavers worked. As with Flemish and Parisian tapestries of the same time, figures were set against a conventional background of verdure, stylised foliage and vignettes of plants on which birds perch and from which issue glimpses of towers and towns.
