Description

An absolutely fabulous antique Baluch rug, recently found within a small private collection, this rug hasn’t been on the market for at least 20 years.  This is an unusual design, one of which we have rarely seen with the large Gul’s and each gul being different is both interesting and decoratively charming.  A fabulous and rare addition to any tribal rug collectors collection.

. . .

The condition is near perfect and is complete at both the ends and selvedges.  There is some nice corrosion to the black/brown dyes which is an excellent indication of age due to this dye corroding over the last 100 years and leaving an embossed effect with the rest of the pile.

These tribal rugs are popular with collectors and rug enthusiasts, woven by tribes people in eastern Persia and western Afghanistan.  Generally woven with a loose weave and using wool foundation their wool has a great softness.  The Baloch or Baluch are tribal people who live mainly in the Balochistan region of the southeastern-most edge of the Iranian plateau in Persia, and Afghanistan, as well as in the Arabian Peninsula.
