£9,500

Description

A vibrant and interesting antique Afghan Kilim with a repeating ‘diamond’ motif, woven in the early part of the 20th century it is in very good original condition.  The colours are beautiful on this Kilim with a great variety of red, pink tones, greens and soft yellows.  The design is quite contemporary in many ways, and we have placed many antique kelims in traditional as well as more modern settings.

. . .

Kilims or Kelims are woven differently from piled carpets as they are constructed with a flat pile.  This is done by using wool interwoven through the warp foundation rather than pushed up to create a knotted pile which is then cut down.  Kilims originate are famous from Anatolia, but have been hand-woven in Afghanistan, Iran, India and the Caucasus for centuries.  Dyes are varying from one weaving area to the next but mainly consist of vegetable dyes.

Please request a home visit if you would like to view this antique Kelim in-situ, we love to travel and help customers find the perfect rug for their home.  It is a free, no obligation service we have offered for over 25 years of business.
