Antique Karaja rug

Circa 1890
122 × 99 cm 4’ x 3’2”

A rustic and tribal small antique Karaja rug, with the best pale blue dyes in the border!  Wonderful dye change, we can see the colours subtly change due to the dyes fading over 100 plus years.

Karaja is a small village in the north of Persia near Heriz, they produced geometric rugs and carpets full of charm, rustic dyes and bold graphics.  Condition is good on this little rug, with a low to medium pile throughout, professionally washed and ends secured ready for the floor.

Purchase online via our secure checkout and we can ship it securely to your home.  Or request a home visit below to arrange a convenient day and time to view this antique Karaja rug in-situ.  We travel all over the UK showing our inventory of carpets and rugs to private customers and interior designers.

. . .

Karaja carpets and rugs were woven in a village in the northeast of the Heriz region of Persia, not far from the Azerbaijan Border.  The rugs often use 8 pointed star motifs and sometimes they weave in animals and people which adds great interest. They are easily recognisable with three repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif has the latch-hooked design and the other two are eight-pointed stars.
