Description

An exquisite Antique Spanish rug which is extremely elegant and subtle in this rare yellow colour and beautiful design.  When Spain was part of the Islamic world they enjoyed a period of rug production that produced knotted pile carpets that have a weave unlike persian carpets with a longer pile. A decorative Spanish carpet with a thick pile and golden yellow colour using soft blues and greens to create a flowing and elegant lattice design.

Spanish carpets imitated carpet designs from Ottoman Turkey in earlier examples, later they adopted a more open European style with vines scrolling throughout in soft colours.  With both Persian and European styles they are beautiful decorative carpets with subtle designs and tones. A very light decorative Spanish rug in a hard to find small size and natural pale colours.

Set in the mountains of east-central Spain lies the City of Cuenca. Sitting east of Madrid it is founded by Moors, it is a historic walled town with steep cobbled streets and medieval castle ruins. Cuenca has been famous for weaving carpets and rugs since the 11th century.
