Description
An attractive antique Heriz rug with a camel toned background more often seen on Bakshaish rugs with pale blues and soft reds, we can even see some rare greens too. Heriz carpets and rugs were woven in the north west of Persia with hand spun wool and natural dyes. This rug has been woven with all natural dyes typical of this area from this period, around 1890-1900. In good original condition all over, a lovely antique rug to brighten a floor and room.
Antique Heriz rugs and carpets are know as the ‘Iron rugs of Persia’ as they are extremely tough being made using good quality wool in the north-west of Persia. Madder red and indigo blue dyes are the most common colours you associate with Heriz weavings.
