Antique Kashan carpet

Circa 1910
380 × 305 cm 12’5” x 10’
£14,000

Description

In exceptional condition and dating from the early 20th century this Kashan carpet was produced by a fine workshop in the city of Kashan, Persia. They were famous for weaving the most intricate and delicate floral designs using the best wool available, which was known as Kork wool.  It took much longer to weave workshop carpets of this quality and expert weavers would have taken a couple of years to complete this elaborate and remarkable carpet.   The wool pile on this carpet is very high throughout, the kork wool is very glossy and has almost a silk sheen to it.  A remarkable elegant antique Kashan carpet, and increasingly collectable.

The main background is a rare pistachio pale green, with a pale border too, this is an exceptional and rare colour for a Kashan carpet, most were woven with traditional red and blue dyes.  The design is intricate with vines and wonderfully drawn floral motifs.

Visit our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey to see this lovely classical antique Kashan carpet and many more, we have a 1000 plus items in our inventory.  Alternatively request a home visit, as we love to travel around the country showing our carpets and rugs in-situ, we would love to show you this beautiful antique Kashan carpet in your own home.  This is a free service we have provided for over 30 years.

Kashan carpets and rugs are highly treasured and classed among the very best Persian carpets and rugs. Kashan is north of Isfahan in the centre of Persia, this is also a town where fine rugs and carpets were woven, both have similarities in design and colour.  The best antique Kashan rugs were woven from the late 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. During this time period, the finest and highest quality antique Kashan rugs were commissioned for individual homes predominately for the Western market. The finest examples are sought after by antique rug collectors or for decorative purposes to use on the floor.
