Antique Ersari Afghan carpet

Circa 1850
271 × 228 cm 8’10” x 7’5”
£8,500

Description

Woven in North Afghanistan this is a lovely mid 19th century Ersari carpet, using the famous Gul repeating pattern and with some original kilim fringe showing at both ends.  Deep madder red tones with softer shades of pinkish hues, indigo blues and deep blues make up the palette, and some wonderful abrash (dye change) can be seen throughout.  This is the charm and beauty of antique carpets, which modern pieces try to replicate.

In good honest order, some minimal lower pile, but very little to speak of.  Please view all the additional images to see the quality of this soft to handle antique Ersari carpet, woven around 170 years ago.
