Antique Bidjar carpet

Circa 1900
378 × 279 cm 12’4” x 9’1”
£25,000

Description

Vivid deep reds, pale blues, rare greens and soft pinks have been used over 120 years ago to weave an exceptional fine antique Bidjar carpet.  These carpets woven in the north-west of Persia are known for their incredible toughness, due to their dense pile and multiple wefts used for their construction.  This carpet is unusual with its delightful all over small design, beautifully hand-woven and still in excellent condition today.  Please view all the close up images to see the colours and pattern.

Request a home visit and you can view this antique Bidjar carpet in your own home, on a convenient day and time.  We have travelled all over the UK helping interior designers and private customers since 1990.  Our free, no obligation, professional home visit service allows you to view our carpets in your own home to make the right choice.

Or if you would like to view this antique carpet at our barn showroom instead, please let us know a preferred day and time you can visit, then we shall make sure the carpet is here ready for you to view.

Additionally if you really love this carpet and would like to reserve it, you can do this using our reserve form.  We are happy to help you the best way we can.

Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug. They tend to be floral in design, with the ‘Herati’ fish design commonly used in the main field and border or the ‘Mina-Khani’ floral design all over as in this example.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire the UK & Europe by appointment.  Request a home visit to see this beautiful antique Bidjar rug in-situ.
