Description
A really stunning and beautifully drawn antique Mahal carpet, woven with wonderful symmetry to the design and exquisite natural dyes. A soft red main background colour, combined with the natural un-dyed ivory wool for the main border and four corner spandrels, this lifts the whole palette, creating a warmth yet light feel. All professionally cleaned and in original order it is ready to use on the floor. Not having a central medallion makes this an easy antique carpet to place in a variety of rooms. Woven around 120 years ago the condition is fantastic, a soft full wool pile all over, this is testimony to antique carpets and how durable they are, this carpet could suit a country house or easily be placed into a London home.

Mahal carpets were produced in Sultanabad, Persia which is now Arak in the centre of Iran. Mahal and Sultanabad rugs were made in the same area as the earliest Fereghans and Sarouks, but they are very different in form and structure. Floral motifs and overall designs of vinescrolls and palmettes remain consistent with the influences of western colour palettes and are all characteristics of Ziegler carpets.
