They took designs from other weaving centres such as Isfahan, Tabriz and Kashan and made them in to their own unique style. Qum’s are finely knotted and use high quality wool and silk. Large looms are set up in Qum so you often find oversized wool and silk Qum’s. Designs generally consist of central medallions with elaborate corner spandrel designs, often these represent the ceiling designs in mosques. Qum was also fond of producing hunting scene rugs, and unusual colours.
