Description

A fun design and vibrant bright colours on this antique Ushak carpet from Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Punchy orange tones on the background combined with soft greens and yellow/gold dyes.  The border design in the pale blue/green with the small motifs is wonderful and quite contemporary in many ways and this rug is in excellent full pile all over.

. . .

A thick pile and woven around 1920 these Oushak rugs, notice the change in design in the main field too from repeating leaves to smaller motifs is great fun.

Please request a home visit to see this antique rug in situ or visit our barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey.  We love to travel and would be very happy to show you this carpet at home along with many more carpets to see which best suits your home.

Oushak or Ushak carpets and their history…….Ushaks were woven in Western Anatolia which was one of the largest rug production areas since the Ottoman Empire.  Their designs tend to be more open than Persian rugs and soft dyes are not uncommon.  Often younger Ushaks or Oushaks will be rich red in colour and use bolder geometric designs.  An Ushaks construction is always quite coarse and never fine like a Persian carpet, this is partly what makes them so interesting.  They are extremely popular with the best interior designers in the UK and overseas.  This Anatolian carpet has an almost contemporary feel to it and would work in a modern space as well as traditional.  We clean every carpet before offering it for sale and make sure the ends and fringes are secured.  A decorative antique carpet ideal for a drawing room, dining room or even a bedroom.  Their soft tones can compliment most interiors and has increased their value and popularity over recent years.
