A glorious antique Tabriz carpet from the master weaver workshop known as 'Hadji Jalili.' Carpets woven from this workshop are extremely fine in their execution, and were always made using excellent dyes that have mellowed beautifully.  The soft palette is due to the carpets age, woven around circa 1880-1890 the dyes would have been much stronger and fade to give a wonderful saturated feel.

The soft pale blue dyes are exquisite and highlight the carpets stunning central medallion which is decorated with birds, snakes and fish!  This carpet is in very good condition for its age, with no major restoration or areas of repair.  The ends and sides are also original and have not been replaced with minimal losses to the fringe in places.  We intend to restore the fringe where it is missing with antique wool to match and complete the ends. This elegant classical carpet would look wonderful in a drawing room or under a dining table.  A remarkable and elegant antique carpet from Tabriz with extraordinary colours, one of the best pieces we have had of this type, just simply beautiful!

Tabriz carpets from Northwest Persia are distinguished by their excellent weave and by their remarkable adherence to the classical traditions of Persian rug design, but they cannot be distinguished by any particular pattern or by their coloration. Tabriz rugs offer classical medallion designs and a host of allover patterns as well in every color imaginable, from brilliant rich tones to soft pastels using excellent natural dyes.
