This Antique Sultanabad carpet with a wonderful floral design with subtle vines flowing in-between the pattern. Dating from the late 19th century an earlier type of carpet woven in Sultanabad with muted dyes from this period.  The colours are soft reds, pale blues and light greens which are delicate to live with and furnish around.  The condition is fair, with low areas and some wear.

. . .

No major damage or losses at the fringes or sides and with excellent rug underlay we will supply included in the price, it would sit flat and be very durable.

Antique Mahal carpets or Sultanabad carpets are generally woven with all over patterns consisting of floral designs and soft tones.  Their neighbours in the north of Persia, Heriz were always more geometric in their style – and more often were woven with central motifs.  The all over design Heriz carpets are increasingly hard to find in good condition and with age.
