Antique Sarouk rug, Persia

Circa 1910
130 x 68 cm 4’3” x 2’2”

Sweet little antique Sarouk rug or 'Pushti' (which is Persan for small mat). Well drawn traditional Persian design with soft pinks and royal blues. Sarouks were woven in the village of Saruk in the Arak region of Persia. The finest of the modern Sarouk rugs comes from the small town of Ghiassabad. These town rugs and carpets were commissioned for the western market around the beginning of the 20th Century and always had scrolling vines and floral motifs woven in soft colours.
