Description

An elegant and refined antique Sarouk carpet woven around circa 1910 in good condition.  The subtle central medallion design and muted colours are classical Sarouk.  With soft shades of pink, pale blue, muted greens and hints of gold tones and royal blues.  An extremely beautiful antique piece with glossy wool and woven on a cotton foundation.  A rare size to find in antique rugs too at 9 x 6 feet as most antique carpets were woven much larger than this.

Condition wise the pile is mostly high all across this finer carpet.  Some minimal areas of low pile but generally very good all over.  The fringes have been secured short to stop any further losses and we have professionally cleaned the rug and the colours and sheen on the pile is gorgeous!

Sarouks were woven in the village of Saruk in the Arak region of Persia. The finest of the modern Sarouk rugs comes from the small town of Ghiassabad. These town rugs and carpets were commissioned for the western market around the beginning of the 20th Century and always had scrolling vines and floral motifs woven in soft colours.
