An early rare green background antique Bakshaish carpet woven around 1880, an all over floral Herati pattern can be seen on the unusual green tone main field.  Woven with a varying rustic orange to red border, this has lots of dye change which we would expect of a carpet of this age.  In marvellous condition with a soft wool pile and minimal preservation.  A rare large size antique carpet with this colour palette.

The weavers in Bakshaish, north Persia used the influences of tribal weavers from the Caucasian villages in their designs.  These rustic carpets are often a very similar in colour to that of neighbouring Heriz and Serapi carpets and rugs.  The early pieces such as this will always have more muted dyes purely down to their age, the natural yellows and variety of rust reds are only seen in carpets of this vintage.

Please request a home visit to arrange a time to view this rare antique carpet in your own home soon. Alternatively arrange a visit to our large barn showroom in Crondall, Surrey.
