In general brilliant condition, with some preservation restoration in places. A rare and collectable Caucasian rug.
Woven in the Caucasus mountains in Azerbaijan by Armenian weavers. Also known as “Karachopf or Karachopt” these tribal weavings were made using soft wool on a woollen foundation, giving them a light feel to touch and handle. The bold geometric motifs and format of this rug are typical of rugs from this region with the four latch-hook motifs in each corner of the main design and a white central motif surrounded by the speckled dots.
The variety of colours are exquisite and due to the rugs age have a great soft appeal to the eye. Coming from a private collection it has been well looked after and used on the floor, so we do have minimal wear. For comparison Sothebys sold a rare green Karachopf in 2014 for around £35,000 or 43,750 USD, an older version of this antique Caucasian Karachopf we are offering here but showcases their value.
