In near perfect condition, this antique Fereghan carpet has an amazing full height wool pile all over.  We believe it has been hardly used throughout its life as the condition is truly exceptional. Also what makes this carpet really stand out, is the dye change in the blue throughout the carpet. Known as ‘abrash’ this means the weavers mixed up different variants of blues and as they went along weaving, selected different shades and over the last 100 plus years it has oxidised and faded differently.  It adds immense character and charm, which is what is so appealing about antique carpets.  The intense red border compliments the blues so well, a stunning piece which needs to be seen in the flesh to be appreciated.

Woven around the late 19th century to early 20th century, this 100 year old Fereghan would look at home in a traditional or modern setting.  Please do request a home visit if you would like to see it at home.  We travel nationwide, a free, no obligation service we have offered for over 30 years.

. . .

Fereghan carpets are generally one of two types, the first being a full field decoration of floral motifs based on Persian designs, most commonly with the geometric ‘Herati’ design.  The second has a full medallion, usually with a contrasting colour, the edge of which is surrounded by a zig zag or jagged border. The dyes have mellowed beautifully due to the carpets age allowing it to be placed in a drawing room or dining room with ease.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & all over the UK by appointment.
