Description

A wonderful rustic country house antique Bidjar carpet, dating from 1890-1900 this carpet is full of character and fantastic natural colours.  In general it is in good condition, with some areas of lower pile, but generally Bidjar’s are known for their toughness and this one still has plenty of life left.  With that the pile height is medium high and the original red outer borders are still showing which frame the carpet.

With the rich reds, pale blues and golden yellow tones, this carpet is perfect for a wood floor and will brighten a space with its rustic charm.  Ideal for a country house, in an entrance hall, under a dining table or in a study for example.

. . .

Rugs from Bidjar are very tough due to their structure which consists of usually five weft threads, two are loose wool threads followed by one taut cotton thread, then a further two loose wool threads. These are tightly beaten together against the knots, creating an extremely tight, compact rug. They tend to be floral in design, with the ‘Herati’ fish design commonly used in the main field and border.
