Description

Bold antique Karaja runner with some chemical dye in the design, which is the brightest dye visible.  A very colourful antique runner which uses a lot of designs you would see in Caucasian rugs woven in Azerbaijan. Chemical dyes were introduced around 1880 and often can be found in rugs from this region. A fantastic runner in excellent condition all over with a high wool pile.

. . .

Ideal to lift a dark corridor and extremely durable.

Heriz and Karaja are areas in Persia not far from the Azerbaijan Border so they draw influences from many Caucasian rugs and runners. They are easily recognisable with repeating medallions similar to those in caucasian rugs. The central motif is often the latch-hooked design motif or an eight-pointed star.  The village weavings of Karaja such as this runner often use a simpler repeating medallion design with a great array of colour.
